Sorry

As I was driving to work this morning, I was listening to the BBC on my satelite radio.  They were going on in detail about Prime Minister Gordon Brown visiting Southern Iraq.  The UK forces will be handing over control of Basra to the Iraqis in two weeks.

"Not that violence has ended, but we are able to move to provincial Iraqi control and that’s thanks to everything you have achieved.

"I know many of you will not be home for Christmas, but I do appreciate the spirit of service that means you are serving here the national interest at Christmas time."

Mr Brown also wished the troops a happy Christmas, paid tribute to their "professionalism, courage and patriotism" and said the "whole British people" were proud of their achievements.

So, after listening to the news for a while, I switched the radio over to a top 40 station that I enjoy listening to from time to time.  They were asking people to call in and request songs.  The next caller was a bloke that mumbled, "Ugghh…I just wanted to say that I’m sorry baaabby for throwing up on you last night".  He went on to pick the song, Sorry, by Buckcherry

This kind of lazy behavior really eats at me, like a leech with a bottomless pit for a stomach.  Christ, do people not have a soul anymore?  It’s not that hard to sit down for a moment and write a poem, song, or make a gift to vindicate one’s actus reus.

People are so freaking lazy that it drives me crazy.  I was organising my folders that I keep all of my poems in, and I was astounded at the number.  I have over 150 poems in my collection that only started a year and a half ago.  Of course, some are good and some are really terrible.  While skimming through them, I discovered over fifty that I wrote about one woman….ONE Woman.  Come on guys…Get off your arses and write how you feel, instead of requesting a song.   That takes a lot of brain power!  :)

Note:  Poems only extended the inevitable end to the relationship.  Eh?  :)

  1. Firstly Wingnut, I am impressed that you have a satellite radio . . . goes well with the GPS I imagine? Yours is the second blog I’ve read today about poetry. One doesn’t get it, you’re right into it. . . Personally . . and as you know my darling, I am not a great fan of the poetic form but .. . if you can put a riff to it . . .we ladies love a serenade you know. You’re prolific in the verse department, you should team up with a musician . . Personally, I’m the write a letter or make a gift type but I’m with you on the laziness . . . a little effort goes a long way to making an impression.

  2. Baino, the satellite radio (SIRIUS) does go brilliantly with my GPS system. :) Yeah, I should try to write some lyrics, but one thing at a time, I reckon? :)

Laziness is spreading like the plague! :)

Thanks for the comment, d’arlin’. :)

  3. JD,
You will find out, if you haven’t already, EVERYBODY gets lazy as the relationship evolves (or crumbles as many have), and NOONE is lazy in the beginning of a relationship. Don’t ask me why but I don’t know anybody who does not fall into the category of “alright-then-it’s-time-for-me-to-get-comfortable-and-put-no-effort-into-this-as-we-are-already-together-and-in-love”. Taking for granted is almost always the next thing that happens when couples fall into the trap of comfort within each others’ arms. That’s one of the major reasons I think love goes out the window along with patience, respect, because the things that helped us fall in love with the other diminish little by little.

I think it sounds rather negative, what I wrote, but, it is true. A little effort goes a long way and I think if we put so much effort into looking good, being kind and full of surprises for strangers, being polite and patient with strangers, why can’t we keep doing it for the ones we love? Beats me…

Great post :) and a great question.

    Gx

  4. You are so right, G. I am as guilty as anyone else. I’ve made promises and not kept them. I even forgot an anniversary once, when I was in high school/secondary level. And, that is a no…no! :) Thank you for the lovely and inspiring comment. :)
