My Mare and the rest of the Clan

I spent part of Sunday with the horses.  Today is my Mare’s birthday.  She’s twenty-one years old.  It seems like just yesterday, when she was welcomed into the fold.  I was just a teenager yet left with the responsibility of caring for her and the other mares.  They are my mothers love and burden now.

I tried to get close up shots but she kept trying to lick the filter as if it were a salt block.  She’s very bashful these days.  Docxy enjoys trotting around the pastures and chasing after deer ‘til she runs out of stamina.  The young stud is very fearful of her teeth.  In all the years that I’ve rode her, she’s not tried to buck or kick me once.

That’s her daughter, Sunshine, to the left.  Docxy is on the right.  The rain had recently ceased, when I took this shot.

The next one is of the studly stud being silly.  We call him Max, because he is a bit whacky like my granduncle.

This shot is of Mandy.  She’s one of the most genial quarter horses I’ve ever met.

Sunshine is ticked off because I haven’t fed her yet.

Quit looking at me with that shiny thing that clicks and give me my food!

Steel Toed IT Crusade

If the first day of 2009 was any indication of the rest of the year, it should be a blast.  I woke up with one heck of a katzenjammer.  I went to my grandmothers for our traditional New Year’s lunch.  We had collards, black-eyed peas, ham, cornbread, chow chow, fatback, and enough Earl Grey to drown a pig.

After our extended lunch, I taught my Uncle how to take really good pictures with his new camera.  I also tuned up his new laptop so that it would run more efficiently.  We babbled for hours about all sorts of subjects.

Later that evening, I went to the store to pick up some essential ingredients for supper.  As I made my way out the exit, I discovered a young man and woman arguing.  I didn’t pay it any attention until the bloke started man handling his girlfriend.  I told him that I’d stick my steel toed boot so far up his backside that he’d be spitting out lead for a week, if he pushed her again.  (I have a very low tolerance for men hitting women.)

The guy looked me up and down then apologised to the girl.  From what I understood, she hadn’t called him in a few days, so he came to her work and demanded to know why she was ignoring him.  He let his emotions get out of hand.  The manager came out and wanted to know what the heck was going on.  The guy was banished from the property.  I left victoriously but kind of felt bad for the guy, for I know what it is like to be blown off.

As soon as I arrived home, my cousin called and wanted me to come over and work on his computer.  So, I grabbed my gear and headed to his house.  We worked on the PC and talked about skirts (women) ‘til 1AM this morning.  It was an interesting day!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I will probably regret posting this, but I must at least wish each and everyone of you a Happy New Year.  Odd years are always good years for me!  Perhaps because I’m odd?

I wish you all the best in ‘09!  I think it’ll be a terrific year.  2008 started out grand but ended on a bad note.  It seems like yesterday, when I decided to move to Ireland.  That got stifled by various agencies and people.  However, some good did come out of me being jobless for five months.

I have a greater appreciation for mother earth.  I live on less income than I ever have before.  I used to spend…spend…spend ‘til them ol’ credit cards were nothing but smoldering ashes.  I think most people have learned to conserve in these hard times.

In 2009, I hope to have as much fun as possible.  I’ve gone way too long without good Craic!  I will detail my plans for 2009 tomorrow.

For those of you that have given up on me, please don’t.  I have been a solitary creature these last few months.  I apologise for such behavior.  I’ve been in a bit blue lately.  I promise to be a better friend to you all in the future.

Anyhew, have a happy new year everyone.  I’ll be posting my resolutions for ‘09 tomorrow.
