Three Words

Ring…Ring…Ring…

“Hello.”

“Hey Uncle Elethan.”

“Hey bud, what’s up?”

“Can you meet me for coffee?”

“Sure Shane”, Uncle Elethan mussitated, as if he were still asleep.

I had some news for him, and he is the type of person that can’t miss anything. He keeps everyone informed as to what I’m doing and who I’m with. He is worse than any woman ever could be at gossiping.

Quickly, I gobbled down the rest of my raisin bran, banana, and protein shake. I ran out to my truck and speeded down the road. Every love song that could be aired over the radio was played, as I tried to concentrate on the curvy road ahead. I was distraught and exhausted.

Elethan and I pulled into the parking lot in unison. We entered, said hello to the cheerful young ladies that always pour our coffees and listen to our tales of woe and joyfulness, and sat down.

“So, what’s going on lad?”

I glared into the turbid brown abyss that was my heart and ironically the cup of java in front of me. I looked up at him with heavy eyes that hadn’t had any sleep, and said, “Three Words”.

“Three Words…What’s going on?” He asked, with a sense of sincerity.

“Three words that I will not soon forget”, I mumbled, as I sipped my coffee.

“You’re killing me with suspense.” “What’s the deal?”

“Just three words”, I said, whilst exhaling.

“You’re scaring me to death boy…What three words?”

The three waitresses that were working the front of the bistro surrounded us, standing on their proverbial toes, awaiting my answer.

“It’s what I get really – for being honest”.

“I love you?”

“Nope”, I exclaimed.

“What then”, the dark haired waitress pleaded, with curiously enlarged eyes.

I glanced around the room to find the servers and everyone in sight anxiously awaiting my answer. They looked like a bunch of inquisitive cats, surveying a fish bowl, hoping that one might leap out.

“Three words that I’ve seen before”, I whispered, as the women drew closer.

“Boy, you’re about to cause me to have a heart attack!”

‘Okay”, I said, as I took another sip of coffee.

“I got played.”

“I was used as a ploy to get a boyfriend back”, I uttered, whilst elevating my left eyebrow.

“I’m sorry Shane”, cried Sandy, the brown haired server.

“The sad thing is that I knew better, because it’s not the first time”, I replied, while wiping my brow.

She jerked me out of the booth that I was in, dragged me over to another booth, sat down across from me, and said, “Any woman would be lucky to have you by her side, Shane”.

“Yeah…Yeah…Yeah…I hear this same line from married women all the time”, I uttered, as a smile overtook the sadness.

“I mean it”, she exclaimed, whilst holding my hand.

“Why, if I weren’t a married woman, I’d……..”

“I know….”

“Don’t give up so easily…There’s one out there waiting on you”, she whispering across the table.

“Well, I’m far from innocent, but I was as honest with her as I’ve ever been with any woman.”

We laughed and I left there overflowing with a sense of peace.

In my years on this earth, I’ve learned that women sometimes use male friends to get their man back, but us men do the same to them. Fair play! I just hate being the freaking tool, or should I say fool!

In all fairness, sometimes us men expect too much out of a friendship/relationship, especially when all truths are not told at the beginning. I’m going to start lying through my teeth, that way I won’t have to worry about being hurt! :)

Peace!!!

  1. Ah poor Wingnut. Now its all clear – see it wasn’t you so you should revel in that. We’re not all gossips and we’re not all dishonest. Your uncle is right ‘there’s one waiting out there for you’. Can’t go looking for love, it will find you. Now welcome back – circulate – chat and don’t give too much up too soon (that’s not lying that’s just being judicious with the truth) If I was 15 years younger!

  2. At least you’re not feeling too bad if you can make humour of it …

To compensate, can we have some misogynistic hip-hop crap with videos full of fine-ass bitches??

That’d make us all feel better, including the women.

  3. Grannymar, you are so right. I will do my best to chill out. :)

Baino, thank you. You’re a sweetheart, but I already knew that. :)

Daz, I have put the single, “Wake up Call”, by Maroon 5 on the bottom of the post just for your entertainment. There are some fine ass bitches in it, I believe? :)

Plus, it goes with the story. Lies!!!!

Thanks for the comments all. :)

  4. You can tell I’ve had a busy week, right, only getting to this now. Apologies. Well, all those others who’ve commented are spot on right. It is said that real love comes up and grabs you when you least expect it, when you’re not looking and very often in a package you never anticipated – it’s totally true. So, enjoy your life, take your magnificent photos, write your beautiful poetry and be happy. Remember, everything happens for a reason :-)
PS all us girls could do with a lot more blokes like you!
