Yesterday morning, I received a picture in an email from an old friend. The picture and subsequent statues in the photograph represent reconciliation. “Hands Across the Divide” is the name of the sculpture, which resides in Derry, Northern (I’m jealous) Ireland. A person doesn’t have to be Catholic or Protestant to understand the sculpture. It has universal meaning. Why can’t we all put down our weapons and shake hands? Why? Is there really a logical reason for all of the bloodshed? I am a man on a mission of peace! Peace brothers and sisters – peace be with you all!

JD, let me illustrate something:
If you gave 50 Northerners white shirts, and said, ‘You’re the Whites and you hate the Reds.’, and gave 50 more Northerners red shirts and told them ‘You hate the Whites because you’re the Reds’, 75% would fight and 25% would have the sense to abstain.
It’s improving somewhat, but at its core it’s about scumbags adopting a cause to live out their sadistic desires. Religion was just a cover, like football hooligans – they don’t support the club, just associate themselves with it to row with other people.
Violence seems to be part of human history. Maybe once upon a time it served a purpose but into today’s global village where we are all interdependent it’s just bloody stupid to keep on waging war.
If so many agree about keeping the peace, why does it go on? I’ve said it before “Good people do nothing while bad things happen.” I’m of the view that it’s the natural albeit terrible cause of events. Daz has a point, ever seen Jane Elliot’s ‘blue eye/brown eye’ experiment? It’s designed to teach about discrimination but it’s also an exercise in marginaliisation. People change depending upon the camp they’re in. I could wax lyrical on this forever. Read Vanilla’s post on Sudan . . .The only time I’ve been in a paddy van was for protesting against war . . all it got me was a good telling off and made absolutely no difference to the world at large!
What to do? What do do?
Hi all, I will address you comments in the morning. I’m exhausted and I have a interview in the morning.
Thanks ladies and gent
Daz, you are on the mark – as always.
Heck, I’ve been know in the past to brawl for no reason at all.
Vanilla, it is idiotic to fight. War solves nothing!
Baino, you are soo right! I need to quit whinning about it and actually do something to make a change. And yes, I have heard of Jane Elliot.
Thanks everyone.
