According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,059 km² (795 mi²). 2,046 km² (790 mi²) of it is land and 13 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water.

On January 16, 2006, Greenville County was the last county in the U.S.to
officially adopt Martin Luther King Day as a paid holiday.

In 1996 Greenville County Council passed a resolution
condemning homosexuality, prompting the committee for the 1996 Summer Olympics
in Atlanta to cancel display of the Olympic
torch
in Greenville
County. A year later, the
Tour
DuPont
bicycle race announced changes to its route to bypass the county in
protest of the still-standing resolution.

The county in which I live, is the largest county in South Carolina.  It is also the fastest growing county in the Southern United States.
