According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,059 km² (795 mi²). 2,046 km² (790 mi²) of it is land and 13 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water.
On January 16, 2006, Greenville County was the last county in the
officially adopt Martin Luther King Day as a paid holiday.
In 1996 Greenville County Council passed a resolution
condemning homosexuality, prompting the committee for the 1996 Summer Olympics
